Abstract
Through an exhaustive review of the column of letters to the editor sent between 1937 and 1943 to the periodical "Cinema", this article outlines individual and social portraits (gender, age, city or region) of the active spectators of the period, delineating their interests and cinematographic knowledge, while providing a picture of the dissemination of film culture in Italy during the late 1930s and early 1940s.
