Abstract

Considering the representation and interpretation of realism in Italian audiovisual serial production, we focus on Gomorra: La serie (2014-in corso). The article presents a first part related to the realistic features that the critics and the audience have indicated as dominant characters of the series. The second aims to identify the elements of the series’ realistic formula through the automatic analysis of textual objects, using topic extraction. Our question is: are there any textual elements which facilitate a realistic reading of a product whose highly formulaic aspects, genre ties and production constraints would seem to indicate a completely different perspective?
