Abstract
The present text aims at showing in what way improvisation allows us to reconceptualize the notion of creativity. With few exceptions, the literature on creativity focuses on forms of cognitive invention. The practice of joint improvisation, with its emphasis on agency in coaction. and on decentered authorship, questions such a picture. And shows to what extent both our representation of the creating subject(s) and of the creative process stand in need of a radical revisioning. Rather than connecting creativity to a mental function, the case of improvised conduct (examined with reference to argentine tango) illustrates how creative agents discover possibilities and opportunities in the course of their interactions.
