Abstract

The text focuses on the strategies and tactics different Maohi generations deploy in relationship with their own history, memory, and tradition, as well as on the different ethnographic approaches useful for studying them. Strongly permeated with epiphanies and the logic of secrecy, the invisible world of French Polynesia, accessible only through a so-called «radical participation», is now experienced by younger Maohi generations in new original ways. On the basis of an ongoing fieldwork research, one will show how rhetorics, poetics and management policies of the past are in constant change in Tahiti, alternating moments of continuity and rupture that shall be investigated through diversified ethnographic approaches.
