The paper examines the terms of Calvino’s relationship with the Italian classics and his consideration for their contribution to the definition of the stylistic and formal values that he considered fundamental to literary activity. It notes Calvino’s predilection for scientific authors and relates it to the judgment that A. Asor Rosa gave of Calvino’s style
