Abstract

The essay reflects on the need of new investigations into Romanticism starting with the case of one of the protagonists of the period, Pietro Borsieri. Author of the programmes of the two most relevant magazines of the period, “Biblioteca italianaµ and “Il Conciliatoreµ, and of one of the theoretical manifestos of Romanticism, the Avventure letterarie di un giorno, Borsieri represents an exemplary case to be studied again starting from the analysis of articles, critical and theoretical writings and correspondence. The latter, only partially edited and investigated, involves the most prominent figures of the contemporary debate and highlights the need to prepare, not only for Borsieri, but for many writers of the 19th century, new annotated and integral editions.
