Abstract
The essay examines Elsa Morante's "La serata a Colono" using the concepts of "novel" "autobiography" and "realism" as a starting point. From the analysis of the most important Elsa Morante's critical essays ("Il poeta di tutta una vita", "Sul romanzo", "Pro o contro la bomba atomica") it is outlined a poetic of realism - enriched with suggestions from Simone Weil - which found its artistical expression in the Edipo's drama. The "apparent" "mise en space" underlines a poetic itinerary deeply influenced by filosophy, religion and oriental mysticism freely interpreted by the author. "La serata a Colono" therefore proofs a strong link between essay and creative writing as well as outlining Morante's way of writing is already looking into the future.
