Abstract

The author discusses some theoretical and methodological limitations in the study of presupposition and proposes some pathways to overcome them: the first part presents a database of Italian lexical presupposition triggers, explaining its overall criteria of compilation and statistical measures; then a definition of presupposition is hypothesized based on the analysis of the similarities and differences with predicative connections. In conclusion, some possible additions to the taxonomy of Italian presupposition triggers are pointed out.
