Abstract
In this paper, a comparison is proposed between Tullio De Mauro's notion of "creativity" and Noam Chomsky's one. For De Mauro such a notion occupies a central position for an adequate scientific theory of semiosis and linguistic activity; for Chomsky, on the other hand, from the beginning of his own scientific work such a notion occupies a marginal position, which finally completely disappears in his latest researches. Some of the consequences of such a deep theoretical difference are discussed in the text.
