Abstract
Centred on the historical period between the mid-19th century and the years of the First World War, this work investigates the moment when the supranational identity of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was put in question by the rise of the identities of the peoples that constituted it. In particular, the ways and forms of the Hapsburgic reaction to these awakenings are revealed through the literary word.
