Abstract

This article reconstructs the stay in Rome of five pensioners sent by the Cadiz School of Fine Arts between 1795 and 1798, on the basis of the correspondence between them and the secretary of the School, Francisco Huarte, preserved in the Historical Archives of Cadiz. Special attention is paid to their artistic education in Rome, to their contacts with other artists and people and to the works they copied from different Museums and Galleries in Rome, but also in Ariccia and Florence. The reconstruction of the stage provides an example of the artistic education that the pensioners of Schools and Academies of Fine Arts received in Italy, in this case as late as the last years of the 18th century.
