Abstract
John Fante and Charles Bukowski created two characters almost perfectly overlapping, Arturo Bandini and Henry Chinaski, protagonists respectively of Ask the Dust (1939) and Factotum (1975). Both try to establish themselves as writers and are willing to take any risk to succeed. This dedication to writing is a key element not only in the affinity between these two characters, but also with some themes of classical literature as in Catullus
