Abstract

The Ambrosian Antiphonary of the Mass (4 voll.) from the abbey of S. Vittore al Corpo (now in the Biblioteca Trivulziana in Milan) reveals many particularities which open interesting new approaches for research. Analysis of the melodies reveals different variants. Complete series of melismatic pieces, such the "Psalmelli", are totally rewritten in a simpler style. Some changes - which at times also involve the texts themselves - can be compared with those to be found in Tridentine revisions of Gregorian chant.
