Abstract
On 1st January 2019 the Danish constitutional ceremony for granting citizenship made shaking hands mandatory. In this article the author examines the Danish naturalization process as well as the historical and legal roots of shaking hands and the way this gesture is treated in national case law so as to then assess whether this rule is discriminatory on the basis of religion.
