Abstract

The essay focuses on the relationship between the theory of social citizenship and the Italian labour law from the end of Fascism to our present. The main issues are the following: the 1948 Constitution and the building of the welfare State; the Italian labour law and the implementation of the constitutional principle of equality in the sixties and seventies; the crisis of 'fordism' and some tentative reforms of the welfare State; the present crisis of labour law paradigm.
