Abstract

This study proposes a new updating task for preschoolers, easy to administer, called «The Magic House», which can be used in clinical practice and research. This task, three working memory tests, two inhibition tests and a shifting test were administered to 118 children (36-73 months old) to investigate the new task's validity and its relationship with the forementioned cognitive tests. The results show that a) «The Magic House» has an acceptable internal consistency; b) performance on «The Magic House» is related to inhibition and, to a lesser degree, on working memory; c) performance on this updating task shows qualitative changes with increasing working memory capacity.
