Abstract
The essay focuses on a perhaps underestimated aspect of Alberto Asor Rosa’s personality and scholarly activity, namely his strong connection with teaching and schooling. The theme is declined both biographically and by reporting some of the attactivities promoted by Alberto Asor Rosa as Director of the Department of Italianistics. The perception of the perhaps irreversible crisis of the school and university (subjected to “capitalist destructionµ) explains the feelings of bitterness and defeat that Alberto Asor Rosa himself makes explicit as he looks back on his years
