Abstract
Starting from an observation by Alberto Asor Rosa relating to Calvino’s relationship with the Italian tradition, the essay reflects on the linguistic traces of Milione inThe Invisible Cities. Particular attention is paid to the way in which Calvino uses the linguistic resources of his model, and more generally of ancient Italian, to shape the perception of the internal time of his book.
