Abstract
This essay aims at reflecting upon the persistence of movie theaters' cultural and social value. It stems from Valentina Fontanella's photographic reportage on three Roman picture houses, saved from abandon or conversion to retail stores. The essay also highlights the coexistence of classical and new features of these entertainment venues.
