Abstract
Gianni Toti (Rome, 1924-2007) was a partisan, a writer, a poet, a journalist, a translator, a filmmaker, as well as an internationally renowned video artist. Writer of many genres simultaneously, in electronic arts he found the most complex and metamorphic «screen-page» for his poetical-political worlds and words. This text explores the links between his avant-garde approach to poetry and film, his critical approach to movies as a journalist, his place in the context of the Italian cinema, his original use found footage, his subversion of cinematic language and his video-art creations as a sort of complex machine able to assume poetic and cinematic utopias.
